DJ Astro started mixing in August 1992 as his love of house music grew while eating fish tacos in "The OC" listening to the PowerTools mixshow on Power 106FM. From an early age he was influenced by 80's disco and other types of dance music.
Falling in love with house music in the mid 90's, his taste for music began to take shape with influential producers and DJs like: Masters at Work, Blaze, Richard Humpty Vission, Tony Largo, DJ Gregory, David Alvarado, Armand Van Helden and L.A. Underground Jungle DJ , R.A.W.
In the late 90s as a student at UCLA, he was a pioneering music director of the urban format for the KLA Radio Station 91.9 FM. DJ Astro made sure that dance music (in whatever style) was properly represented at KLA, spreading his love of house during his show "The Selector's Lounge", and explored the drum & bass genre on "Planet of the Drums."
In early 2000s, DJ Astro temporarily relocated to Washington DC, where he was inspired by the city's diverse nightlife. It was there that he adopted a more loungey and deep downtempo sound that was prominent at venues such as Red and the 18th Street Lounge. While in DC, DJ Astro held a Thursday night residency at the 18th Pointe in Adams Morgan, where he played various types of world music.
As DJ Astro's passion for music grew more eclectic, while in DC, he started an independent Latin Alternative label called Rockero3000, which allowed him to tour with bands, DJing for crowds in New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Tijuana and El Salvador.
Since returning to Los Angeles, DJ Astro has started djing at various bar and lounges in West LA. For the last year, DJ Astro has held a Friday night "happy hour" residency at the Air Conditioned Lounge in Santa Monica.
